On February 8, 1974, the Skylab era came to an end when astronauts Gerald Carr, Ed Gibson, and Bill Pogue left the space station and returned to Earth after an 84-day mission that included 1,214 orbits and four spacewalks totaling 22 hours, 13 minutes. Once they took a few stunning photos of the abandoned outpost from the command module, the Skylab threesome splashed down in the Pacific Ocean southwest of San Diego, California.
