TODAY IN HISTORY – On August 5, 1971, the Apollo 15 command module was heading back to Earth when it came time for a little chore. Astronaut Al Worden, command module pilot, went on a spacewalk outside the craft in order to retrieve film from the Scientific Instrument Module (SIM) bay, which couldn’t be accessed from inside the ship. This was the first-ever EVA in deep space. (NASA)
