August 6, 1945: The “Little Boy” atom bomb destroyed the city of Hiroshima, Japan. At the moment this photo was taken, smoke rose up in a column 20,000 feet above Hiroshima while smoke from the explosion had spread over 10,000 feet at the base of the rising column.
